STEM Friday

Looking for a book for your Earth and Space Science curriculum?  Look no further! Budding ecologists and environmental scientists will love to read Jeanne Sturm’s nonfiction book Understanding Biomes.  It is part of Rourke Publishing’s Let’s Explore Science series, intended for grades 4-6, and it features 48 pages of full-color photos and stimulating text.  This book has beautiful images of our planet and its animals. The author explains biodiversity, animal and plant adaptations, deforestation, and overfishing. She concludes the book with a focus on pollution.  She ends on a hopeful note, providing  concrete examples of ways we all can help care for the Earth.  There is also a Try This! section that shows kids how to build a backyard ecosystem for the animals that live in their community. Great fun- science in action!
